
Medellin Award

The organization and development process of the Latin-American and Caribbean Competition for the Transfer of Best Practices edition 2005 gives place to the Medellín Award stablishment, granted by the Mayor Sergio Fajardo Valderrama´s administration. The Medellín Award is planned for 2005 and 2007 edition of the Competition. |
The winner practices will be analyzed in all its dimension, as study cases, and will be the Regional Transfer Plan first step, that Habitat Foundation of Colombia will propel in direct coordination with the Ibero-American and Caribbean Forum on Best Practices (The Forum), looking its multiplication and adjustment in other cities of LAC and of the world. |
In the first year of the Competition, the City of Medellín will present the Medellín Award for Best Practices Transfer to each of up to five selected projects. Each of the prize-winners will receive: |
a) US$ 10,000, itemized as follows: US$ 5,000 in cash, and US$ 5,000 in air fares for three visits by the project's representative to Medellín - one to participate in the Awards Ceremony, and two to be used during the transfer and implementation of the practice. |
b) The trophy and certificate of the Medellín Award

c) Inclusion of the practice in written and audio-visual publications about the first presentation of the Award. |
d) Assistance in the submission of the winning practice to the Dubai International Award 2006. |
e) The right of the representative of the practice to act as an “Expert Consultant” in the pilot project of transfer and implementation of the practice in Medellín. This process will be supported by Medellín City Hall , various city bodies, representatives of the Forum, organizations related to the Global Program of Best Practices, and the Habitat Colombia Foundation.

The LA&C/BP Competition first edition looks to choose five (5) LAC Best Practices with a high transfer potential, address widespread regional phenomena , and stay in keeping with the guidelines and commitments of the Habitat Agenda, the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations, and the strategic guidelines of the Development Plan of Mayor Sergio Fajardo Valderrama's administration, entitled “Medellín: a Commitment for the Entire Citizenry”. |
